How to Get Involved:

Altar Care and
Liturgical Enviroment
Our members enjoy setting up our worship space and ensuring a warm welcome for our liturgical celebrations. We welcome those with a gift for organization and decorating to join us in serving. On Sundays, our members coordinate the necessary preparations for the liturgy. Volunteers assist with laundering and ironing the altar linens each week.

The altar server has a critical role in supporting the priest and deacon at Mass and other liturgical celebrations. It may be one of the first services a boy or girl can perform for the Church community, giving them a sense of responsibility and building kinship with the Church and community. It can instill a sense of pride and honor for their part in the celebration of the Mass. In our parish, altar servers include parishioners of all ages, both young people and adults. The parish provides training for all those who are called to serve God and His people in this important liturgical function.

Extraordinary Misnisters
Eucharistic Ministers, also known as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, play a vital role in serving the community by assisting with the distribution of the Blessed Sacrament at Mass. It's a meaningful way for confirmed adults to deepen their spiritual commitment and make a difference. Furthermore, commissioned Eucharistic Ministers have the option to undergo additional training to serve as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion for the Homebound, allowing them to bring the comfort of communion to parishioners who are unable to attend Mass due to residing in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or their own homes. Joining this ministry offers a unique opportunity to extend the spiritual connection of the Eucharist to those who are unable to travel to church.

Lectors play a crucial role in effectively and clearly proclaiming the Word of God, ensuring that everyone can engage and respond. They read the first and second Scripture readings at Sunday Masses and other services. Parish training is regularly offered and is required. Training dates are announced in the bulletin and on the website.

Just what is a “Catechist?”
The word catechist comes from the Greek word “to echo.” As catechists, we echo the teachings of the Church. We also echo our own personal relationship with Jesus Christ through our words and deeds.
Is God calling YOU in a specific way?
As we look to a new year here at Church of St William, especially for those children (kindergarten through high school!), we are inviting you to listen, to be attentive, to hear God’s call as a catechist! Serving as a catechist is more than simple volunteerism. It is more than filling a slot. It is a vocation: a call from God to serve his Church!
